Market Intelligence Internship
This role will conduct a competitive intelligence and product-trend monitoring focused primarily on video and live-commerce channels across Chinese e‑commerce and social platforms, using Mandarin fluency and market instincts to surface what’s selling, why it sells, and how discovery-to-conversion funnels operate.
Key Responsibilities
- Core focus: Video & live commerce benchmarking
- Systematically monitor short-video feeds and livestreams (e.g., Douyin, Taobao Live, Kuaishou, Xiaohongshu, Bilibili) to map content formats, discovery paths, host/shopper behaviors, conversion mechanics and promotional mechanics.
- Build standardized templates to capture livestream/video attributes (host type, script structure, demo vs. review, discount timing, bundling, gifts, CTAs, links, GMV indicators).
- Product-trend & hot-seller monitoring
- Track top-selling SKUs/categories in live/video channels; quantify velocity (sell‑through indicators), price tiers, promo mechanics and repeatability of formats.
- Analyze “why it’s hot”: product attributes, messaging, influencer fit, scarcity/urgency triggers, supply constraints, and channel-specific drivers.
- Competitive moves & creative intelligence
- Identify and archive standout creative executions, funnel experiments, unique merchandising or discovery innovations from competitors and MCNs.
- Data capture, hygiene & tooling
- Create and maintain trackers/dashboards for live/video metrics, SKU-level price & promo history, host performance, and topline trends (Google Sheets/Excel/BI).
- Use manual sampling, lightweight automation/scraping where allowed, and third‑party analytics (if available) to triangulate signals.
- Insight delivery & cross-functional translation
- Deliver concise weekly briefs, monthly deep dives and urgent alerts focused on implications for Business Unit team
- Translate observations into testable recommendations (experiment ideas, slotting or content playbooks).
- Compliance & evidence
- Maintain evidence logs, timestamped clips/screenshots and source links; ensure ethical data practices and platform-term compliance.
Required Qualifications
Must-have Requirements:
- Language: Native or near‑native Mandarin; strong written English for cross‑functional reporting, Native Bahasa Indonesia
- Education: Current undergraduate or recent graduate in Business, Marketing, Data Analytics, Media Studies, China Studies or related field.
- Hands‑on familiarity with Chinese short‑video and livestream commerce ecosystems and user journeys.
- Strong qualitative research skills: observation, pattern recognition, competitive story telling.
- Comfortable with quantitative summarization: Google Sheets/Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas), ability to synthesize into charts/tables.
- Strong written communication — concise briefs in Mandarin (and English as needed).
- High integrity, attention to evidence, and ability to handle confidential info.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently based in mainland China, or recently lived there and still have regular access to Chinese commerce platforms and local professional connections.
- Experience with light web scraping/automation (Apify, Octoparse), basic Python (pandas) or SQL.
- Experience using China analytics tools (QuestMobile, GrowingIO, Sensor Tower, SimilarWeb) or marketplace data sources.
- Familiarity with livestream KPIs and mechanics: viewers, peak concurrent viewers, watch time, comments/min, gifts, conversion cues, estimated GMV.
- Prior internships/projects in e‑commerce, digital media, MCN or consulting.
- Basic slide/deck creation and stakeholder presentation experience.
